HELP ON MESSAGE RETRIEVAL ========================= NOTE: Not all commands are available to all users at all times! Some commands appaer only in certain situations (explained below with each command), and others require you to be VIP or IVP user in order to use them. The commands are as follows: gain Re-read the current message. eply Reply to the current message. ext Move to the next message in sequence.

rev Move to the Previous message in sequence. (Note: Not available when you are already reading messages in everse order, neither if you are reading messages individually) ueue Add this message to your message-waiting Queue. Your message-waiting queue is the list of non-read messages adressed to you and that you see when you logon, or acces with option in the IB-BBS main menu. This option tells the BBS to put a message back in that list so it will be presented to you again next time you logon or use the option. NOTE: This option is only available on messages that are adressed to you. If this is not the case, this prompt will not appear. top Stop reading messages. If you are following a message thread (discussed in a moment) top causes you to stop following the thread, and return to normal message retrieval. If you are NOT following a thread, top aborts the message reading process and returns you to the BBS menu that got you here. ncl Download the file enclosed with the current message. (If no file is enclosed, this prompt will not appear.) elp See the help information you're reading now. <-> Read the previous message in the message thread. (This command only appears if the current message is a reply to another message.) Once you begin following the thread, the ext command is used to move to the next message in the thread. Use the top command to cease reading the thread at any time and return to normal reading. <*> Read the next message in the message thread. (This command only appears if the current message has replies to it.) Once you begin following the thread, the ext command is used to move to the next message in the thread. Use the top command to cease reading the thread at any time and return to normal reading. wd Forward this message to someone else. (In certain cases, this command may also allow you to move the message to another message area.) You may forward with Comments, which allows you to add text to the beginning of the message prior to forwarding; or you may forward as-is, in wich case the BBS will simply add an Indication, which will mark the message as having been forwarded by you. ATTENTION: Forwarding a message actually consists of changing the TO: field of a message, no copies are made. If this is a private message adressed to you, then you will not have acces to the message anymore after the forward! (The new reciepient will in place. The originator of the message also has acces since the Forward does not change the FROM field. So don't worry if a private message seems to have dissapeard after a forward, it is just not shown to you anymore. (Available only if the message is FROM or TO you and also, only VIP/IVP can Fwd. msgs) el Delete the current message. (Available only if the message is FROM or TO you) n-Del Allows you to "undelete" (restore) a message which you just deleted. You must make this selection prior to moving to the next message - once you move to another message, you cannot undelete! (This option only appears just after message deletion) ubby Allows you to copy the current message to your cubbyhole. Your cubbyhole is a private drawer in wich you can copy messages that you want to be able to consult later easely. You can then read and reply to them later through the cubbyhole access command wich is the "our Cubby" command in the IB-BBS main menu. Cubbyholed messages are generally also retained much longer on the system than public networked messages (Internet newsgroups or Fidonet Echomail), so Cubbyholing can also be used to make the BBS to retain certain messages from those areas for you longer than the 10 or 14 days they are held normally. Local messages and private networked mail (Internet E-mail or Fidonet Netmail) are retained much longer so Cubbyholing those won't make those live longer. Also if you use your cubbyhole you should clean it from time to time by using the el command on each message while in your cubbyhole. You need VIP/IVP to use Cubbyhole. Execute chatsystem command! The / character lets you acces commands from the IB-BBS chat system. Type /H for info on the available commands. There are a lot of very usefull commands in here (like sending chatmessages, checking who is online now and how much time you have left on this call), all WITHOUT having to return to a menu, without leaving your messages. Try /w /t or /a now to get a taste, then type /h to see them all. **** End of help file.
